Why IVF Access Matters
-

What Infertility Really Is
Infertility is a medical diagnosis, not a personal failure. It affects at least 1 in 8 couples in the U.S. and is recognized by the World Health Organization as a disease of the reproductive system.
Infertility is not “just trying longer.”
For many, it means a complete loss of natural fertility function. And for thousands of families, IVF is not elective, it is the only path forward to build a family. -

The Cost of IVF
The average single IVF cycle costs between $15,000–$25,000 in the United States (per attempt or cycle).
Most families need multiple cycles.
And in Tennessee, like most states, fertility coverage is rarely included in standard health insurance plans. This means that in one of the most vulnerable moments of their lives, families are forced to choose between their dream of having a child…and financial survival.

The Emotional + Financial Toll
Infertility is grief. Grief over failed cycles, unseen losses, empty due dates, and dreams that keep getting pushed into tomorrow. Families trying to conceive through IVF experience:
Repeated grief cycles
Medical trauma
Isolation
Fear of running out of time or money
This isn’t “just expensive.” This is emotionally and financially destabilizing.
IVF access is not just about creating life, it is about protecting hope, protecting mental health, and protecting the right to pursue parenthood.

Why We Advocate
Because access to IVF shouldn’t be a luxury. It should be protected, affordable, and possible for every family who needs it. We believe IVF access is reproductive justice. And we will keep fighting in Tennessee and nationally until that is reality.
